The Oaxaca Diaries 2021: The city of Oaxaca and somewhere in Etla
The despondency of the first day was largely removed from this day.
With the awareness of having nothing to pretend that this is an expedition like that of the previous years, the day was comforted, from the beginning, by having regained that energy that I felt lacking the previous night. And so having taken the wrong street in the neighborhood where our B&B is located becomes an opportunity for the first photos of the day.
When she saw me take the first shot, the proud lady asks me to photograph her Catrina, which she is still arranging. This invitation kisses this day with optimism. I love the people of Oaxaca.
In the square of Santo Domingo we meet with Oscar. We will go with him to the home of a painter, his friend.
The streets of Oaxaca filled up and I returned to fly on the wings of enthusiasm. My street photography has told this city in different places, situations, stories...
As you may have guessed from the last photos we put ourselves in the toughest barrios of Oaxaca, near the central de abastos. We had to take a collective taxi to reach Etla.
With Estaban, Leonel (the son of Maestro Margarito), Oscar and my wife Carmen we talked about Art,. We ate some delicious garnachas expertly cooked by Esteban's wife, drinking beer. I am happy to have met Esteban because I coincide with many points of his vision and approach to art, far from a certain academic elitism.
I recommend to follow the work of Esteban, Oscar and Leonel through their instagram:
Time to go to rest at our B&B. The day was intense and tomorrow we expect another.
